Together colleagues take on first Hackathon

Teams of Together colleagues recently spent 48 hours holed up in one of Manchester’s finest hotels, as the first ever Together Hackathon took place.

As we continue in our quest to remain one step ahead of the digital curve, people from across the business, from IT to product development, came together to push the boundaries of technology, in order to develop the most creative digital solutions for everyday business needs.

The Hackathon saw over 30 colleagues embracing the most recent tech, with the off-site event designed to rid anyone of the ‘business as usual’ mentality, and allow them to channel their inner geek.

Each team was presented with a different brief, and in just 48 hours we had six exciting new projects which give us an excellent start into developing some brand new technology.

Following a tough judging decision made by our senior leadership team after pitches from each group, ‘Code Slingers’ were crowned the Hackathon winners.

Our IT director Simon Carter explained: “They were chosen due to their creativity and the business potential of their product, an innovative solution to address company engagement and recognition. This was our first Hackathon and it was a great success, so we’re looking forward to hosting further events to help us drive and develop our IT capabilities and ensure we’re at the forefront of industry innovations."

Other proposals from the two-day event will also be progressed, with two currently planned for implementation in the coming weeks, as we maximise the efforts made by the teams, and continue to grow all aspects of our business.

Overall, it was a big success – our colleagues really enjoyed the event whilst it also resulted in tangible business results. Teams were empowered people to work together creatively and we can’t wait to hold the next, bigger and even better, Together Hackathon.
