Together

Food for thought with the Together Foodbank

Knowing the vital role that foodbanks play in supporting the local community, and providing essential items for those that are struggling financially, we’ve teamed up with Stockport Foodbank to help distribute emergency food to those in crisis, in and around the Stockport area.

We launched the Together Foodbank in January 2017 as part of our ‘Let’s get caring’ community outreach programme, with a huge response from our colleagues, who donated over 800 items to provide nutritional and balanced food parcels. The total weight of the items donated to Stockport Foodbank following our initial two-week collection was over 250kg; equivalent to 250 meals.

One of the requests on our list of urgently needed items was toothbrushes as, prior to our donations, there was only one toothbrush left in the warehouse. However, thanks to the generosity of our colleagues, we added 200 more.

Marketing Stockport also joined in supporting the Together Foodbank, with members of the local business network bringing donations with them to the February meeting, which we hosted our at Cheadle offices

As well as launching our food collection points and raising awareness amongst our 500-plus colleagues, we sent a team of volunteers to Stockport Foodbank’s Hazel Grove distribution centre. Here, our dedicated colleagues helped to organise over 1,000kg of food, ready to be placed into parcels and transported to the seven distribution centres throughout the Stockport area.

Nigel Tedford, project manager at Stockport Foodbank, added: “We received a significant amount of donations from Together which has benefited the support we can offer in and around the Stockport area. The amount of work done by the team in one afternoon would have taken in excess of a week using our usual amount of volunteers too, so giving their time as well as donations has truly helped.”

We’ll be running the Together Foodbank on a regular basis from now on, with our next collection starting in April. You can find out more about Stockport Foodbank here.
