Celebrating win at Stockport Business Awards

18 October 2017

Celebrating success after winning ‘Excellence in CSR’ at the Stockport Business Awards.

Alongside providing finance to a wide range of customers; from homebuyers and property investors to businesses and entrepreneurs, we have a strong commitment to giving back to the community and last year launched our ‘Let’s make it count’ initiative.

Spanning charity, community and the environment, the programme sees our 550-plus colleagues participating in local causes. Their efforts were rewarded at Stockport’s annual awards celebration for local businesses, held at Stockport Town Hall, when we won the ‘Excellence in CSR’ award for corporate social responsibility.

Kevin Fisher, our HR director explains: “The business has always done a lot of work with charity and the community; but given the level of growth we’ve experienced in recent years, we wanted to put more emphasis on this, to make even more of an impact. We set up Let’s Make it Count last year, with six core groups - all run by volunteers and supported by the business - and the response from our colleagues has been phenomenal.

“We’ve carried out a host of amazing activities, with fundraising events including the National Three Peaks Challenge and the Great Manchester Run. We hosted a call centre for Comic Relief with over 100 volunteers, we set up our own foodbank, we launched an enterprise scheme to local schools, we mentored disadvantaged youngsters, we volunteered for the National Trust and other charities, and much more. It’s only made possible because of the passion and commitment of our colleagues, so this award is very much for them.“

The judges said: “This is a well-deserved award for Together who are involved in a huge amount of CSR activity in the local area and are a fantastic example of how to do it right!"
