In conversation: Scott Clay on helping wealthy clients secure high value mortgages and loans.
Scott Clay, Director of our bespoke Together Premier service, recently joined Charlie Chami on The Private Client Podcast to discuss Scott’s career in Sales and the unique challenges faced by wealthy clients looking to secure high value mortgages and loans.
Charlie is a Director and independent financial adviser at family-run Glamis IFA and co-founder of the Private Client Network.
Here are some of the highlights from the pod:
“Our biggest USP is you can ring a mobile phone number, speak to a decision maker, get a decision very quickly and get the funds you need in a very short space of time.”
Having discussed Together’s 50 year legacy as a lender, Scott was quick to highlight that we still operate with a fast, flexible start-up mentality that values direct communication, relationship-building and common sense.
Together Premier clients get a direct line with their dedicated account manager, mortgage advisor and underwriter from day one so they can discuss funding, ask questions, and get answers quickly. For more in-depth discussions, we can provide next working day appointments so you’re not waiting.

“It’s that Catch 22 situation that we come up against where a lot of people would struggle with the high street banks who say “Give us your last three months’ pay slips”.”
When Charlie asks about the circumstances where private clients and their financial advisers should be thinking about specialist lending, Scott brings up some of the complex income scenarios that he deals with on a daily basis.
One of the most common examples is where successful entrepreneurs take a small salary so that they can legally minimise tax and keep capital within their business. But they’ll have substantial assets and income through other means, including dividends, Buy to Let portfolios, other personal properties and taxed director’s loan accounts.
Hear how Scott can assess complex and multiple income streams, alongside other affordability factors, to support clients rejected by traditional lenders’ ‘Computer says no” criteria.

“I can go and speak directly to the Head of Credit who sits 10 yards away from my desk and get decisions.”
Later in the podcast, Scott speaks about how he sympathises with mortgage advisers working for multi-national banks, as they can often submit an application only for it to go missing for a few weeks.
But Together being a comparatively smaller, more connected business gives our Premier service a unique advantage when it comes to getting quick, positive results for his clients.
