Meet the contestants
Annie, 28, works in the water industry. She describes her young daughter as the most important thing in the world, and was motivated to apply for the show by the potential to make the cash that would help her buy a home with her partner.
Sherri-Leigh, 26, is from Aberdare and works as a mortgage adviser, so knows a little about the local property market. She’s moved back home with her family after flying the nest once before and loves living in a buzzing home, but says she’s in a position to buy her own place – except for the deposit…

What did they do?
Before
The house needed a comprehensive renovation, with new windows, a new kitchen and bathroom on the to-do list – alongside dealing with a major rising damp problem, and eradicating unfashionable textured plasterwork.
After
The renovated property is the perfect blank canvas for the buyers to put their own stamp on. New windows and clean, white walls give a real sense of space, with the addition of French windows and a modern glass balustrade adding to that.
Result: £10,626 profit

Our expert's view
Scott Hendry, Director of Auction Relationships:
“That the girls knew each other before the show demonstrates how valuable it can be having a great working relationship.
“Despite having no building experience, they really got stuck in and did a lot of the work themselves – this is a great way to keep your expenses down.
“Property prices in the Valleys have a ceiling, which makes turning a profit challenging. Their ‘saving, not scrimping’ approach to cost-conscious refurbishment is one that any team hoping to emulate their success would do well to learn. It’s almost unbelievable that the kitchen was free!”
